What is a facelift?
Technically known
as Rhytidectomy, a
facelift is a surgical
procedure that
smoothes loose skin on
the face and neck,
tightens underlying
tissues and muscles,
and removes excess fat
.
It is ideal for people
who have a sagging, older
looking face, double chin,
turkey neck and/or
jowls.
Am I a good
candidate for a face
lift?
The best candidates
for facial cosmetic
surgery are men or
women who are
physically healthy,
but suffer from the
effects of aging, like
sagging skin and
wrinkles in the facial
area. In order to
ensure the best
results, the
candidate’s skin
should still retain an
adequate amount of
elasticity.
Most face lift
patients are between
forty and sixty years
old and want to
reverse some of the
signs of aging. Each
face lift is
different. Differing
techniques allow our
surgeons to provide
each patient with
results unique to
their facial contours.
You can discuss which
face lift technique is
best for you during
your initial
consultation.
How is the face
lift procedure done?
Incisions are
made within the
hairline above
the ear,
continuing
downward around
and behind the
earlobe and back
into the hair. It
is not necessary
to shave hair for
the procedure.
Facial skin is
separated from
the fat and
muscle
underneath, then
pulled up and
backward in the
temple and ear
areas. The excess
is removed.
Sagging muscles
and connective
tissues are
tightened and
accumulations of
fat are removed
or repositioned.
What can I expect
after a face lift
procedure?
There will be
minimal
postoperative
pain that is
easily controlled
by prescription
medication.
Most swelling and
discoloration
will subside
within two to
three weeks.
Full activities
may be resumed in
a month.
Pre- and
postsurgical skin
care treatment
provided by on
staff
aesthetician.
What results can I
expect after a face
lift?
A natural,
younger and more
rested-looking
appearance.
Major improvement
is apparent in
the first two to
three weeks with
continued
improvement and
"smoothing out"
of the patient's
appearance over
six to nine
months.
